School is back in session and I have once again found myself taking a class which involves the topic of entrepreneurship. I would consider this to be a passion of mine. I have desires of wanting to open up businesses and am taking the necessary steps of doing so. Because we are only a couple weeks into the course, we are beginning our journey in this class which, to me, can be very comparable to the journey that each of are on in our lives. In this blog post, I would like expound on this topic just a bit.
A few of the assignments that we worked on this week includes: reading our first entrepreneurial book, reading a number of blogs, coming up with forty different business ideas, and learning from entrepreneur Corey Bell in our Action Hero Assignment. While doing these assignments, Stephen R Covey’s Seven Habits came ringing clear in my ears and I couldn’t help to compare what I learned here to a few of these Habits. Bro. Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People are:
- Be Proactive
- Begin with the End in Mind
- First things First
- Think win/win
- “Seek first to understand before you seek to be understood” – Empathetic Listening
- Create Synergy
- Sharpen the Saw
I would consider these preparatory assignments to be Habits one, two, and seven of Highly Effective People. It is essential in entrepreneurship to see where you are going and to take the necessary steps of obtaining that. Corey Bell spoke of each of these points in an Action Hero video dedicated to him. Before becoming a successful businessman, he looked into the future and saw what he wanted to accomplish in his life. He went on create a fifteen year plan that would fulfill this vision of his and, with hard work and the will to never give up, he created a very successful company in TriFusion.
Bro. Covey spoke of obtaining a private victory everyday in his first three Habits before we go out into the workplace and obtain a public victory among our peers in his remaining four. I would suggest that we are in the early stages of this journey, but would suggest that we are on the right path. Where we are to go is only up to us. Whether it be success or failure, may it be a path that will help us to ultimately fulfill the vision that is our life. We are only starting out, but we are truly on the path of entrepreneurship and life and can only go upwards from here.
